Severe Weather Awareness Day (SWAD)

Please help us spread the word! We are less than one month away from NWS Nashville’s Severe Weather Awareness Day (SWAD) at Trevecca Nazarene University, in the Boone Business Building on Saturday, February 24th. This SWAD outreach event kicks off the annual Tennessee Severe Weather Awareness Week which is officially February 25-March 3. We hope you will participate in both events!

Here are some great things about the Severe Weather Awareness Day (SWAD) outreach event that you may not know:

Morning Session (9am-12pm) will have plenty of activities for families and children! Topics include:

  • Meet Local TV Meteorologists
  • Learn how to build an Emergency Kit
  • Stump an NWS Meteorologist (Luckily, not me cause I’ll be hiding!)
  • Meet the Tennessee Titan’s Mascot T-Rac
  • Show your skills on WSMV’s “Green Screen”
  • Participate in weather experiments

Afternoon Session (1pm-4pm) will be for the weather enthusiasts and geeks (me)! Topics include:

  • 20th Anniversary of the Nashville Tornado
  • Middle Tennessee’s ONLY F-5 Tornado
  • Super Tuesday Outbreak: A Look Back Ten Years Ago
  • Advanced Spotter Class
  • Get in the “Hot Seat” and Identify a Tornado

This event is FREE and Open to All. For more information: http://www.weather.gov/ohx/swad2018

And the best part, you get to meet some of the NWS Meteorologists who give you these briefings!

Please let me know if you have questions, suggestions, and/or feedback!

Have a great day!
