Winlink check-in to the WCARES Net

To check in to the WCARES Monday Net via Winlink:

  • Send a Winlink message to WC4EOC@winlink.org
  • over RF mode only(*)
  • between 0600 to 1800 Central Time (6 AM to 6 PM) on the Monday of the net and
  • include the following in the subject or body (or both) of the message:
    • the RF mode you’re using (Packet, ARDOP, VARA, VARA FM, Winmor, Pactor etc.)
    • the full date of the net you are checking in to
    • your power source (commercial, battery, generator, solar etc.)

* Check-ins via Winlink must be sent over radio unless you are outside the WCARES repeater coverage area and don’t have HF capability.

Like the regular nets, the first Monday of each month is Alternate Power so try to check in using an alternate power source.

WCARES Net

The WCARES net is held every Monday evening on the WCARES repeater system at 7 PM Central time.  Membership is not required to check in.

On the first net of each month, stations are asked to use alternative power (battery, generator, solar etc.) if possible to communicate with the net as an exercise in emergency readiness. However, do not give your power source when checking in by voice.

Third Monday of each month has an Alternet after the regular Monday night net.  This will alternate between simplex, duplex and HF.  Check the WCARES Event calendar or listen on the regular Monday night net to find out where the Alternet will be.

Training Nets.  Periodically, topics of interest will be presented in place of the regular roster call.  These are great opportunities to hear about areas of Amateur Radio you may wish to learn more about.

Early Check-ins are not accepted for this net. However, Winlink check-in over radio is accepted between 6 AM and 6 PM Central on the Monday of the net if you can’t join the net by voice. Learn more about Winlink check-in here.

Siren Test

The County EMA has requested our assistance as they restart the county siren tests. These tests will be conducted every month on the 1st Saturday at 1:00 pm. To conduct these tests, the County has set up a web-based siren selection and reporting system. Please review the instructions in the Feb 27th WCARES Notes. If you have any questions about the procedure, you may call any of the following for assistance: Ed Hudgens, Jack Cox, Jeff Standifer, Jeff Schwartz, or Gene Cheatham. If you can help with this new(renewed) activity, please go ahead and follow the link in the WCARES Notes and select your siren.

Cliff, N4CCB has created a video that explains in more detail how to participate in these Siren Tests. You can find the video here:
