Jack Cox, KA4OTB Jan 2009 – Dec 2011
Once again the Planning Committee was faced with the decision of finding a new EC. Several members of the committee asked Jack to assume the lead position and he accepted, thus beginning a new chapter for WCARES. Jack had long been the “face and voice” of WCARES because of his duties as Operations Manager in the Planning Committee. Jack had been the primary net control operator for WCARES since the early days of the organization and had been calling the weekly net for many years. For many members, Jack was their first contact with WCARES. From the highly successful “Our Spies Spotted You” letter to people who had Amateur Radio ‘Emergency’ license plates on their vehicles to newly minted hams Jack met at the Nashville VE Team test sessions, he was constantly on the look for new members. What started out a brief, weekly email reminder of events to WCARES members grew into a full fledged weekly newsletter. The WCARES Notes now go out regularly to hundreds of addressees – both WCARES and non ARES recipients.
