Licensed in 1976 as Tech with code, and upgraded to General in 2005.
ARRL Life Member since roughly 1977.
Born 2/19/1944 in Nashville, TN.
Married to Abbie Hudgens since 1965. Two grown children who still live in Knoxville, TN.
Education and work experience:
Graduated in 1966 from Christian Brothers College in Memphis – BSEE. Taught at Herff School of Engineering at Univ. of Memphis and worked towards MSEE. Electrical engineer and Sr. Project Manager with Allen & Hoshall, Inc. in both Memphis and Knoxville for 35 years. Retired from Ameresco Federal Solutions in Knoxville as Sr. Engineer in spring of 2013. Licensed Professional Engineer in 17 states at retirement.
Amateur Radio Experience and Interests:
Currently also serving as Vice Director of the Delta Division of the ARRL since 2014. Member of ARRL EMC Committee studying various forms of electromagnetic interference effecting Amateurs.
Member of WCARES (Williamson County, TN ARES) serving as NWS and MTEARS Liaison for all weather related events in middle Tennessee. Coordinator of WCARES primary SSB Field Day station for several years. Active participant in most events and exercises in which WCARES is a part. Joined WCARES around 2003 after moving from Knoxville to Nashville.
Active in Knoxville, TN area repeater clubs from 1980 to 2003 when we lived in Knoxville. Served as Civil Defense Liaison for the Shelby County ARES back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Member of Delta Club while in Memphis. Active on TN Phone Net and enjoy chasing DX.
Main station is an Icom 7610 with a Palstar Tuner and Ameritron amp feeding a 170’ long wire as well as several VHF/UHF rigs. Also run HF and VHF/UHF mobile. Monitor WCARES and MTEARS systems when in shack and mobile.
